The Decemberists are thrilled to announce Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 as support for the following shows: NYC, Philadelphia, Boston, and Columbia. The Venus 3 includes Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin, or as Robyn puts it, “3/4ths of the Minus 5 and half of R.E.M.” The Heartless Bastards will be playing a handful of shows with us in August.

It’s common knowledge that the Decemberists’ arch-nemesis, a certain Stephen Colbert, robbed guitarist Chris Funk of his rightful mantle of “Shreddiest in the West” during the much-touted Guitarmageddon of 2006. On April 27th, The Decemberists will be returning to Mr. Colbert’s cable television program to redeem themselves. Or at least to have a pleasant interview with the host and play a song from their new LP, The Hazards of Love. It remains to be said whether or not Colin Meloy will command his legion twitter followers (125,000 and growing) against Mr Colbert’s relatively weaker armada (a mere 75K or so) in a earth-scorching battle-to-end-all-battles. Pick your side and enlist by following either twitter.com/colinmeloy or twitter.com/stephenathome.

Speaking of things online, The Decemberists have, with the release of The Hazards of Love, broken the proverbial champagne bottle over their brand new Online Download Store. Why buy our records from here rather than through other online outlets? Easy: you can support the band directly this way, you can bundle your purchase with a t-shirt, and you can choose to buy the download as a 320 kbps mp3 or as a FLAC lossless file — they’re better quality files than you’ll find anywhere else. Check it out at: http://www.decemberistsshop.com/downloads.html. For those of you who still choose to consume music in a format that you can rest your coffee cup on, buy CDs and vinyl at http://www.decemberistsshop.com/zencart/.

The Decemberists’ D-Luxe Message Board, the be-all-end-all place to discuss Decemberists related esoterica, has moved to a server that will better accommodate the fiery dialogues that go on there. Join the fray at http://orate.decemberists.com.

That’s it!

Yours,

The Decemberists
