New Album Out Today, More Tour Dates Added
Adored Mailing List Recipients,
Our new album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, is now available everywhere! We can't thank you all enough for your support and hope many of you are reading this email with your own copy gracing wherever you may listen to music these days. If you neglected pre-ordering, you can order it on CD/vinyl from us (and get an instant download of the album) or keep it digital on iTunes.
So here we go, new tour dates! There will still be more to announce next month, but we're excited to start getting the West Coast involved. Starting in late April, we'll hit Mesa, AZ before heading west for shows in San Diego, Berkeley, and Los Angeles with Lucius as support for all four nights. On May 27, we'll team up with Spoon for a co-headlining show at Red Rocks with Courtney Barnett opening up the evening. Then looking ahead to the summer, we'll play a near-Portland date at Edgefield in Troutdale, OR on July 10th.
We'll have a limited number of pre-sale tickets available at Decemberists.com starting tomorrow, January 21, at 10am local time. If you aren't able to grab yours before we run out, the public on-sale will follow this Friday, January 23.
We'll be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live this Thursday night at 11:35/10:35c on ABC so prepare to Blorph it. If you live in LA and would like to attend the outdoor taping, you can get free tickets here.
Not only is today the album's release date, but mayor Charlie Hales is set to officially declare it “Decemberists Day” in Portland in just a few hours. If you live elsewhere, we'll leave it up to you how you may choose to commemorate the occasion but if you're a local, we'd love to see you at the ceremony. Be sure to arrive at the City Hall atrium by 2pm sharp for the proclamation (penned by Lemony Snicket), the unveiling of a collaborative art piece inspired by the album that was created by 50 local Portland artists and small businesses, and our live performance. Here's a sneak peek at the proclamation:
Thank you all again for picking up the record and we look forward to performing large swaths of it live, along with plenty of the back catalog, in the coming months!
All the best,
The Decemberists
